Happiness = log(Wealth)
May 9th, 2007 Filed Under ideas, random
I’ve heard that Happiness = log(Wealth). I compiled a chart of happiness levels.
| Happiness Level ($e) | Total Wealth (including all assets) | General Title |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | $0-1.00 | Crackhead |
| 1 | $1-10 | Refugee |
| 2 | $10-100 | Homeless |
| 3 | $100-1,000 | Student |
| 4 | $1,000-10,000 | Working Class |
| 5 | $10,000-100,000 | Professional |
| 6 | $100,000-$1m | Partner/Tenured |
| 7 | $1m-10million | Nouveau Riche |
| 8 | $10m-100m | Old Money |
| 9 | $100m-1billion | Politician or media megastar |
| 10 | $1b-10b | Sheik or mini-mogul |
| 11 | $10b-100b | Mogul |
Money doesn’t make you happy, but it sure is nice not having to worry about it.
Update: added the exponential currency prefix ($e).
all easter candy 10 cents
April 29th, 2007 Filed Under adventures, fun, random
The Rite Aid had six bins full of easter candy, marked “all easter candy .10″. In particular, I noticed that 10 cents would buy 1/2 lb of “milk chocolate flavored” (calories per serving: 200; servings per bunny: 6; main ingredient: sugar). So I got ten. Twelve thousand calories for one dollar.

All told, I spent $3.00 on peeps, marshmellow eggs, and chocolate bunnies.
an overload of kings
March 19th, 2007 Filed Under happening, random
A friend took this picture at a local bar; it was neither staged nor doctored, I am assured.

(For the unobservant or image-disabled reader, a poker player named King has pocket kings. And the Kings beat the Oilers 5-1).

In response to Wired’s 6-word story feature, I wrote my own:
Old widow’s last words: “*sigh*, finally.”
